Introduction
The aim of the Rugby League Academy is to provide a high quality specialised course of study from Year 7-10 for students who exhibit a special talent in Rugby League.
Students enrolled in the Rugby League Academy develop life and learning skills such as leadership, teamwork, fair play, competitiveness, responsibility and community involvement in the context of a team sport.
Students are contracted to benchmark academic and behavioural standards which clarify the conditions for maintaining a competitive standing in the Program. The Program is designed to extend each student’s individual skills in their selected sport while providing a balanced high quality education.
Operation
Students who show potential to perform at a high level in Rugby League, including playing, refereeing, coaching and administration, are given an opportunity to develop their individual skills through intensive coaching.
The students study Rugby League as a discrete Physical Education subject. Students receive instruction in refereeing, first aid, coaching, sports medicine, statistics, scoring, administration and management. All qualifications are recognized both Nationally and Internationally. The staff, delivering the course are all Level One and Two Nationally accredited coaches in their chosen field.
Rockingham Senior High School Rugby League Academy is supported by and in direct partnership agreements with the WARL and ARL bodies, providing access to State and National Rugby League coaching, resources and Specialised Team selections.
Students selected in to the Rugby League Academy are expected to represent the school in mid week competition, exhibit exemplary behaviour and maintain satisfactory progress in all subjects.
